Well, I'm posting from school now, seeing how that I have 5 free periods of doing nothing and there's no one using this computer, so I took the liberity of helping myself to it. Its not like that anyone's going to come ask me to go away...There's no one here! And even if they do, well, I can just finish this post, and leave. Simple as that.

You know, I was walking around in the MRT a few days ago, and I saw hordes of people who are plugged in, as in, plugged into their MP3 players (Hail the iPod!). Now this is a very common sight. We see these people wandering the streets everyday. So why am I starting my rant on them now? Well, its something my teacher told me once...Have you ever noticed that the moment you plug yourself into your MP3, no one comes to bug you? Its like, the very act of putting those plugs into your ears create a magical wall around you which no one can get through. Try this out. Insert the earphones of your MP3 into your ears and, while grooving to your favourite songs, waltz into a stall and start to look helpless. See how long it takes for some one to come help you. Now take out your earphones, and walk into another stall and, once again, look helpless. See how long it is before someone comes offering help.

Got that?

Good. Now, compare the different timings. I'll bet you that you won't be approached no matter how long you stand there with your earphones in your ear, but when you aren't wearing them, someone would come to help you before too long (that is, if you are in a stall with good service. If you are in one without SC, you are just wasting your time). Its like I said - You gain an invisible barrier around you. Just try it out.

And of course, this is having an effect on our society. Living almost totally in this wall would result in isolation, because you would be too busy listening to your songs to bother about other people, and people won't want to bother you because you are listening to your songs (round and round the wheel goes). This would result in people becoming more self-centred, and probably more selfish.

We are living in the Age of the Self. If you haven't noticed that by now...You proabably won't be reading this anyway. People are not as caring as they were in ages pass. Let me ask you this question - How many of you actually know your neighbour's name? Or their family background? Or their history? Anyone?

Speaking for myself, I have to say that I do not know anything about my neighbours, other than their living beside me. I only know them by their looks, and am clueless about their names (I make a terrible neighbour).

Compare this to just about 50 years ago (not too long a time...really...If you compare it to the lenght of time the Earth has be around) where everyone in the area knew everyone else. Doors aren't closed at night, secerts can be shared and life was good (in general...they didn't have TV or the computer then, so I prefer this time era.) But today, you can be sued for just about anything (if you live in the States. Here in Singapore, at least we know we won't be sued over something like falling down in front of your lawn), and be killed for something as simple as money. Really, times have gotten worse. Human culture has gotten worse even as technology improves.

Well, that end the rant for today. I have to go now.
